Today a landmark decision by the Federal Court Of Australia that iiNet are not reasonable for illegal downloads through their service.
Federal Court judge Justice Dennis Cowdroy today found that iiNet was not liable to stop users from obtaining illegal content from the internet.
"It is impossible to conclude that iiNet has authorised copyright infringement… (it) did not have relevant power to prevent infringements occurring," Justice Cowdroy said in his judgment.
This is an important decision for the internet user in Australia. If the decision had gone the other way then we may have seen people been denied access to the internet because of alleged illegal download of content from the the internet.
